Laurens Vanthoor takes a Porsche double in qualifying at Lime Rock

Porsche is definitely the brand to beat in GTLM in 2019 in IMSA. With a series of five consecutive victories in the category before going to Lime Rock Park this weekend, the German brand was counting on continuing and hit hard in qualifying.

With his two arrows Laurens Vanthoor and Nick Tandy, Weissach signed the double this Saturday afternoon, the Belgian driver, who shares the seat of the No. 912 with Earl Bamber, takes pole in 49″133, 52 thousandths ahead of the Briton, supported by Patrick Pilet.

This is the first pole in IMSA for the former member of the Audi Sport fold.

BMW Team RLL is the best pursuer of the 911 RSRs, with the #8 M25 of Connor de Phillippi and Tom Blomqvist, which fails almost two tenths behind Vanthoor. Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook hoist the best No. 67 Ford GT – Chip Ganassi Racing into fourth position.

The third row will be 100% Corvette, with Garcia’s No. 7 C3.Rs – Magnussen and No. 4 from Gavin – Fässler, pushed back by more than half a second.

In GTD, Acura and Meyer Shank Racing dominated the proceedings with pole position for the No. 3 NSX GT86 of Mario Farnbacher and Trent Hindman, the latter completing the reference lap in 51″456.

The session in the category was ultra-contested since Ben Keating placed the Mercedes-AMG GT3 n°33 – Riley Motorsports at 26 thousandths, when Corey Lewis (Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo n°48 – Paul Miller Racing) fails at 76 thousandths, and Robby Foley (BMW M6 GT3 n°96 – Turner Motorsport) does not concede than 80 thousandths.

The race is due to start this evening at 21 p.m. French time.
