Antepenultimate round of the 2022 season ofIMSA, Road America is an opportunity to already think about the next year. While only the VIR (August 26-28), a round reserved for Grand Touring cars, and Small Le Mans (September 28-October 1) in the final meeting, John Doonan, President of IMSA, revealed the program for the next North American endurance championship. As a reminder, this vintage will mark the return of the GTP category and the arrival of the LMDh to replace the current DPi.

Dans ces six manches, quatre composeront l’Endurance Cup: the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 6 Hours of the Glen and Petit Le Mans.

IMSA also announced its sustainable commitments. Thus, each GTP car will use a single-source hybrid powertrain, which will reduce fuel consumption by more than 10%. For each car's internal combustion engine, IMSA's official fuel supplier, VP Racing Fuels, will supply VP R80 renewable fuel.

Michelin, the official tire supplier of IMSA, has developed a new unique tire for the GTP class, which will have the capability of overtaking stints. This could result in a reduction in tire usage of up to 25%. Michelin's current WeatherTech Championship racing tires contain almost 30% sustainable raw materials.

The manufacturer also presented a new racing tire containing 53% sustainable raw materials. IMSA and Michelin are working together to explore the introduction of this tire into IMSA competition.
