The Grand-Am / ALMS will have 4 categories from 2014

The Grand-Am will merge with the ALMS in 2014 to establish a unique endurance series in America. The organizers of the discipline took advantage of the start of testing at Daytona to unveil the structure of the competition when the merger takes place.

The discipline will have four categories, the first being a combination of the Daytona Prototypes from Grand-Am with the LMP2s from the ALMS. The LMP1 category will disappear after suffering from a lack of participants in ALMS. The DeltaWing made by Highcroft Racing, which was in the spotlight by occupying the 56th stand of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2012, will also be accepted in this new discipline. The organizers will carry out a balance of performances.

The Prototype Challenge nicknamed LMPC which is active in ALMS will also be retained in 2014. If no confirmation has been made, the Pro-Am formula requiring the presence of an amateur driver in the crew should be retained.

The GT categories of both disciplines will complete the starting grids. The new GX category making its Grand-Am debut this season could also be included or separated into a fifth category. THE Porsche 911 GT3 Cups currently representing the GTC category of the ALMS will be eligible.
