Le Mans winners on the 911 GT3 Hybrid

As your AUTOhebdo magazine announced to you in its July 28 issue, Romain Dumas will compete in the Petit Le Mans, second round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and final round of the American Le Mans Series on the Porsche 911 GT3 Hybrid. On the Road Atlanta circuit on October 2, the Frenchman will share the wheel with Germans Timo Bernhard and Mike Rockenfeller. The latter, although a former Porsche driver, has moved into the Audi fold for several seasons. The Stuttgart firm, however, decided to invite him to this race in order to reconstitute the winning trio of the last 24 Hours of Le Mans aboard the No. 15 Audi R9 plus.

Even if the car will be out of classification, the ACO having not yet taken hybrid into account in its regulations, this “new technology” Porsche will undoubtedly be one of the attractions of the event.

“Our priorities will be to further develop hybrid technology and optimize fuel consumption in racing conditions, explains Timo Bernhard. However, I am very curious to see where we will be compared to the cars in the GT2 category.. And Romain Dumas adds “There is no other place where GT competition is as strong as in the United States”.

The Alésien will therefore participate in the three events counting for the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup aboard three different cars. From the Porsche 997 GT3 RSR at Silverstone, he will have to jump into the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid in Florida, before finishing in the seat of the Audi R15 plus at Zuhai in China.
