Championship fans IMSA will finally be able to stay with family the first weekend of January. The “Roar before the Rolex 24”, which serves as a test day for 24 Hours of Daytona, is usually the first motorsport meeting of the year, at the very beginning of the month.
In 2021, it is postponed to January 22, 23 and 24... Just one week before the race, which will take place on January 30 and 31. The 24 Hours of Daytona will open the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
IMSA, organizer of the event, wanted to combine the two events to allow the teams to stay on site for only one week. A simpler situation in the event of significant health measures. It will also be an opportunity to develop new activities for fans around the circuit and “Daytona Boulevard”.
As a reminder, this year, it is the only race in the championship that was able to take place on the scheduled date. The quartet Ryan Briscoe, Scott Dixon, Kamui Kobayashi and Renger Van der Zande won in the Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-VR. 2021 should be the last year of approval of current DPi, before the transition to LMDh.
