In a qualifying session marked by Oliver Jarvis (Mazda Motorsports) going off the track into the tire wall, the Cadillacs left nothing to their opponents. Felipe Nasr (Whelen Engineering) took pole position in 1:11.620 ahead. Kevin Magnussen (Chip Ganassi Racing) and the French Loïc duval (JDC-Miller Motorsports). The three DPi of the General Motors group dominated the two Acuras with only a fifth place for the championship leaders, Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor (Wayne Taylor Racing), winners of the previous round at Laguna Seca.
