Mazda stops the DPi… and will not go to LMDh!

After reducing the size by only fielding one RT24-P this year compared to two previously in IMSA, Mazda today made its departure from the series official at the end of the 2021 campaign.

« Mazda has a long history in racing and has recently added a few wins and podiums to its CV, underlines Masahiro Moro, president of Mazda North American Operations. We are especially proud of our victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring (last November. Editor's note) and our podiums at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2020 and 2021. These are important successes in the history of Mazda Motorsports. We thank our drivers, team, partners and fans for their years of support and look forward to completing a strong 2021 season. »

But that is not the only bad news, since Mazda took the opportunity to confirm that it is no longer working on a possible entry in 2023 in LMDh. The reason: the promoters' vision of the future does not meet the expectations of this historic IMSA manufacturer.

Cadillac and Acura will therefore be alone next year in DPi, before possibly being joined by Audi and Porsche in 2023, which formalized work on the design of an LMDh.

It should also be noted that the current boss Nelson Cosgrove will give way to Mo Murray, until now responsible for the DPi project.
