Mazda continues its streak at Road America

Harry Tincknell and Jonathan Bomarito impose the #24 RT55-P ahead of the big favorite Acura ARX-05 #6 – Acura Team Penske of Dane Cameron and Juan Pablo Montoya, Tinckell having taken the advantage over Montoya after a little more than one hour of running. From then on, the No. 6 Acura, dominant in practice and qualifying, will never be able to return.

Consolation for the Cameron – Montoya duo, they retain control of the championship, and even increase their lead over Pipo Derani and Felipe Nasr.

The podium is completed by the second Mazda n°77 of Nunez – Jarvis, who failed 3″ from second place. Behind, the gaps are greater since we find the three Cadillac DPi-VR n°31 – Action Express Racing of Derani – Nasr, n°10 – Wayne Taylor Racing of van der Zande – Taylor and n°5 – Action Express Racing de Barbosa – Albuquerque, more than 1’16”. Tristan Vautier and Misha Goikhberg (Cadillac DPi-VR n°85 – JDC-Miller) finished 8th after one lap.

Ford sees double

In GTLM, Ford Chip Ganassi signs his second victory in a row, also the second for the No. 67 of Westbrook – Briscoe. The hierarchy took shape more quickly than in DPi, since Ryan Briscoe only waited 40′ to overtake leader Oliver Gavin (Corvette C7.R n°4) on the 19th lap and flew to victory, with an end of the race perfectly controlled by Richard Westbrook.

Ford even scored a double with the No. 66 of Joey Hand and Dirk Müller, the first city overcoming the No. 4 Corvette seven minutes from the finish. It was not the Corvette race, since the No. 4 did not even see the podium, forced to add fuel in the final moments of the event, thus offering the last step of the podium to the No. 911 Porsche 912 RSR. XNUMX by Laurens Vanthoor and Earl Bamber.

The latter took advantage of this to increase their lead in the championship over their teammates Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy, 7th yesterday, with 14 points ahead in the GTLM standings. Porsche also won in GTD with the No. 911 3 GT9 R – Pfaff Motorsports of Robichon – Campbell.
