Petit Le Mans – Qualifying: Blomqvist places Meyer Shank Racing on pole

Dominated by the Cadillacs during the Petit Le Mans Free Practice, the Acuras emerged at the front in qualifying with Tom Blomqvist taking pole position for Meyer Shank Racing.

After the Cadillacs dominated the three Free Practice sessions, the Acuras came out of the woods at the right time to dominate the qualifying sessions. Petit Le Mans, final of the 2022 IMSA season. Fighting with Tom Blomqvist for pole position, Ricky Taylor made a mistake in the gravel less than seven minutes from the checkered flag at the wheel of the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing DPi. At the same time, the Briton from Meyer Shank Racing further improved his time to take pole position in 1:08.555. He beat Earl Bamber in the No. 02 Cadillac by 0.233 seconds and Ricky Taylor, third, 0.247 seconds behind.

Blomqvist locks in Manufacturers title for Acura

Tom Blomqvist's pole has a double consequence in the championships. First of all, Acura pocketed the Manufacturers' title even before the start of the event. Finally, the duel between Honda's two North American branch cars for the Drivers' title has become even closer before the 10 a.m. race this Saturday.

In the LM P2 category, Steven Thomas was the fastest at the wheel of the No. 11 Oreca from PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports. The American beat Dennis Andersen (High Class Racing n°20) and Ben Keating (PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports n°52).

French manufacturer Ligier scored a hat-trick in LM P3. Kay van Berlo set the best lap in this category with the No. 320 Riley Motorsports JS P74. He beat Malthe Jakobsen (Sean Creech Motorsport n°33) and Jarett Andretti (Andretti Autosport n°36). 

Jack Hawksworth confirmed his pace and that which the No. 3 Lexus RC F GT14 of VasserSullivan has displayed since the start of the weekend by setting the best time in the GTD Pro. The Briton beat Alex Riberas (Aston Martin Vantage GT3 n°23 of Heart of Racing Team) and James Calado (Ferrari 488 GT3 n°62 of Risi Competizione). 

Madison Snow was fastest in the GTD class in the No. 4 Paul Miller Racing BMW M3 GT1 in 1:19.118. The American got the better of the two Lamborghini Huracan GT3s. Robert Megannis took second for CarBahn with Peregrine Racing and Jaden Conwright took third for NTE/SSR.
