Petit Le Mans postponed by a month in IMSA

When the 24 Hours of Le Mans change dates, the entire ecosystem of Le Mans badged series must adapt. After the European Le Mans Series, the turn ofIMSA to review your calendar.

The American championship was to end on October 9 with the Petit Le Mans, it will finally conclude a month later. Indeed, the new date for the 24 Hours of Le Mans falls on August 21 and 22, at the same time as the IMSA round in Virginia, reserved for GTLM and GTD.

Due to the lack of television coverage that the presence of the 24 Hours of Le Mans would cause and the fact that several teams and drivers plan to compete at Le Mans, the WeatherTech championship race will now take place on Saturday, October 9.

The new date for Petit Le Mans will be Saturday November 13 and will close the 2021 WeatherTech Championship and IMSA Michelin seasons Endurance Cup

“Given the momentum we are carrying in television viewership, it is important for us to preserve the live NBC network windows,” said IMSA President John Doonan. Hosting our season finale in November was successful last year at Sebring, and we have every reason to believe we can be successful again in November at Road Atlanta.”

The next IMSA round will be the 12 Hours of Sebring on March 20.
