Pla and Meyrick with the DeltaWing at Sebring

The DeltaWing will be present at the 12 Hours of Sebring for its third endurance race after the 24 Hours of Le Mans where she stood 56th and Road Atlanta where she took fifth place in the standings. For the 12 Hours of Sebring, which it will contest for the first time in the LMP1 category, Don Panoz's team has selected Frenchman Olivier Pla and Briton Andy Meyrick to form the prototype crew.

Olivier Pla distinguished himself last year by defending the colors of Oak Racing in WEC with the Morgan-Nissan LMP2 and taking second place in the Championship in ELMS alongside Bertrand Baguette. “As a racing driver, it is an honor to be a part of this program and I want to thank Oak Racing for letting me drive the DeltaWing”, commented the 31-year-old Toulouse resident. “The DeltaWing has been in the spotlight since the start of the project and Don Panoz has achieved sublime things for motorsport. When I got the call from David Price (the team principal) to drive the DeltaWing at Sebring, I couldn't say no. I have several years of experience in car which adds to my knowledge in LMP1 and LMP2, but I am sure that we will have a lot to learn and that is really very interesting. »

For his part, Andy Meyrick has only competed in a few proto events, his last race dating back to 2011 when he drove the Lola B09/60 ofAston Martin. The Briton nevertheless kept one foot in the competition by defending the colors of Gulf Racing UK in Blancpain Endurance Series at the wheel of a McLaren MP4-12C tout en disputant la Porsche Carrera Cup britannique. “It’s a true privilege to be part of this program. The DeltaWing is a revolutionary race car that completely overhauls the way racing is approached. I am excited and particularly motivated to work with Don Panoz and DeltaWing Racing Cars. Don Panoz is a key part of motorsports in America and around the world and I truly believe in the program and the team. I don't think the adjustment will be too great and I'm looking forward to flying the DeltaWing for the first time. The limited weight of the car should make it very responsive and this is an important factor for a driver. »
