Merger confirmed between ACO, FIA and IMSA

“Convergence”. This is the name of the reconciliation of technical regulations undertaken jointly by the ACO, the FIA and theIMSA. The objective being to create a large common premier category for endurance races.

This convergence will allow cars with different technical definitions to run together, whether in WEC, in the World ChampionshipEndurance but also across the Atlantic, as in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championships. A reality that will take place from 2023.

“The FIA, ACO and IMSA have worked together to provide a common future for Endurance, declares Richard Mille, President of the FIA Endurance Commission. From now on, teams entering LMH and LMDh can race on both sides of the Atlantic.

Today, convergence has moved one step closer to reality, which is great news for all of us involved in endurance racing. The principles were accepted by all parties. The dream of teams and manufacturers of being able to compete in all top-level endurance races for the first time with the same car is now within reach. This announcement represents an important moment in the history of motor racing. »

Whether at the ACO or the IMSA, we welcome such an agreement.

“For teams and fans alike, this decision is fantastic news. By working together with our partners, it is the promise of a great future that we offer to Endurance,” promises Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO.

“What we achieved together during our meeting in Paris a few weeks ago could well revolutionize prototype racing around the world. Everything is in place to create an extremely competitive premier category which will welcome an impressive number of manufacturers, among the largest in the world”, enthuses John Doonan, President of IMSA.

However, the question of the admissibility of LMHs still remains to be resolved. It must be subject to the conclusion of an individual commercial agreement between each manufacturer and IMSA and must respect the sporting regulations of the body.
