Ryan Hunter-Reay joins Mazda Team Joest in Mid-Ohio

To replace Harry Tincknell, retained in the WEC in just over a week, Mazda Team Joest will trust Ryan Hunter-Reay, pillar of the IndyCar championship.

Ryan Hunter-Reay joins Mazda Team Joest in Mid-Ohio

THEEndurance, Ryan Hunter Reay know well. The champion IndyCar 2012 and winner of the Indy 500 in 2014 regularly lines up at the wheel of the prototypes entered in IMSA, with the main achievement being a third place at Daytona in 2016 with VisitFlorida Racing.

The American will be called upon again in a little over a week for the Mid-Ohio round. The Andretti Autosport resident in IndyCar will replace Harry Tincknell, retained in WEC at the 6 Hours of Spa with Ford, at Mazda team joest.

Hunter-Reay will support Jonathan Bomarito in the No. 24 RT55-P DPi, before Tincknell returns to his seat for the remaining rounds of the championship.

“Mazda has really focused a lot on this program and Mazda Team Joest has taken a big step forward this season, mentions Hunter-Reay. The car is obviously very fast and I can't wait to drive it at Mid-Ohio.

Jonathan is a good friend and we were teammates before. So it will be a pleasure to share the No. 55 Mazda with him and fight for victory. I have been driving prototypes in IMSA for a long time and the Prototype championship is more impressive than it has ever been. So I’m excited to be a part of it this season. »

Hunter-Reay will be able to share his experience of a track where he reached the podium in 2011 with Andretti in IndyCar.
