Despite the domination of the Cadillacs during Free Practice, it is towards a final between the two Acuras entered in DPi that the 2022 season of theIMSA is heading. By signing the brand's sixth pole position this year in the North American championship, Tom Blomqvist offered the Manufacturers' title to the North American branch of Honda even before the start of the race which will be held this Saturday. It is at the end of these ten hours of testing on the winding route of Road Atlanta (Georgia) that the Drivers and Teams titles will be awarded. These will be decided between the two Acuras: that of Meyer Shank Racing (Blomqvist, Jarvis, Castroneves ; pole position) and that of Wayne Taylor Racing (Albuquerque, Taylor, Hartley; 3rd).

“We really needed to upgrade #10 (Wayne Taylor Racing Acura) to keep the pressure on them, recognizes Tom Blomqvist. Tomorrow (Sunday), it's going to be fierce. It will be ten hours of close combat. I have to be grateful to the boys and girls at MSR for giving me such a good car today. It was fabulous, I really enjoyed every lap of qualifying. It was extraordinary to be able to push the car to its absolute limit. This race is extremely difficult. The lap is short and there are 43 cars, so the traffic never stops. Darkness falling at the end of the race makes things even more difficult, but this is where champions are made, so I hope we come out on the right side of this battle. »

“Congratulations to Tom (Blomqvist) and his team, they made a great effort today, congratulated Ricky Taylor, who made a mistake in the gravel during a flying lap seven minutes from the end of qualifying. There was a way to achieve a better time with our car today (Saturday), but they focused on qualifying and it paid off. Now it's a duel between us and anything can happen. It's a long race, and it often comes down to the final hour. »

See you at 18:10 p.m. this Saturday, October 1 for the 25th edition of Petit Le Mans, final of the 2022 IMSA season and final competitive appearance of the DPi.
