United SportsCar Championship – An overview of the DP / LMP2 Performance Balance

By deciding to mix the Daytona Prototypes with LM P2s and other DeltaWings in the premier category of the United SportsCar Championship, theIMSA embarked on a very complicated mission. Indeed, so that these three cars of very different design can each have as many chances of victory, the governing bodies see themselves obliged to set up a Balance of Performance.

Still not made official, AUTOhebdo reveals an overview in its issue 1928 (available here in digital version and in all kiosks). According to our information, here are the main points of the Balance of Performance between LM P2 and Daytona Prototypes for 2014 across the Atlantic. Obviously, adjustments are possible, to say the least, when the cars are in direct confrontation on the track.

LM P2: 60 kg of ballast (or more if the first results show the need) and an adjustment of the engine flanges.

Daytona Prototype: Improvement in authorized performance + adoption of an aerodynamic kit + adoption of a traction control system + increase in downforce.

As a reminder, the United SportsCar Championship schedule was unveiled last Friday in Austin, on the occasion of the antepenultimate round of the American Le Mans Series.
