Winner at Sebring, Antonio Fuoco hails his final stint as "one of the best of [his] GT career"

Driving the No. 21 Ferrari 296 GT3, Antonio Fuoco won the 12 Hours of Sebring thanks to a daring overtaking maneuver on the final lap. The Italian driver finished alongside Lilou Wadoux and Simon Mann.

It seems that in GT racing, the 12 Hours of Sebring always ends in a final sprint! This time, one of the protagonists was Antonio Fuoco, who got the better of the...Aston Martin Number 27 on the very last lap of the race, to secure the victory for the AF Corse USA team. The official driver Classic Ferrari for salewho will once again drive the #50 499P in the FIA WECHe doesn't hesitate to describe the final stint of the Florida race as one of his best in GT. Indeed, he was seventh in the GTD category with half an hour to go…

“It was definitely one of my best drives, because at the final restart, coming out seventh, I had to be very aggressive in the first corner. I overtook two or three cars in one lap, and from then on, I tried to push hard all the way to the end. On the last lap, the Aston in front made a small mistake. I took the opportunity to go around the outside in turns 11 and 12, and it worked. I would definitely put that last stint in the top three of the GT races I’ve done so far.”he explained, after notably winning the GT World Cup in Macau last year!

With Lilou Wadoux and Simon Mann, the adventure of these 12 Hours of Sebring was not without its challenges for Antonio Fuoco, as the car which ultimately won received no fewer than three drive-through penalties! A situation which the Italian lamented in the press conference, while expressing pride in having been able, with the whole team, to overcome these setbacks.

“We’d like to understand how we got three drive-through penalties, because I think two of them were undeserved. But we weren’t able to review it with the stewards, so… Anyway, we came through it. It was a chaotic race, but in the end we managed to win. Everyone did an incredible job, Lilou, Simon, the whole team, who never gave up until the very end. It’s a great victory, similar to the one in 2022; it’s always like that at Sebring, very close.”

And to think that Auto-hebdo expressed doubts about the aforementioned Fuoco during the presentation of the WEC crews of the 499... If you are quick in GT, you are generally quick in prototype.
