The future of the LM P2 category is becoming clearer. With new regulations planned for 2028, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has launched a second call for tenders after the one concerning powertrains. This one concerns future chassis suppliers. Currently, there are four: Ligier, Dallara, Multimatic, and Oreca, but the latter largely dominates the market thanks to its Oreca 07.

The new tender document specifies that the number of chassis suppliers for the European Le Mans Series, the Asian Le Mans Series, theIMSA and 24 Hours of Le Mans will be reduced to two. There should therefore no longer be a regulatory link between the LM P2 and LMDh categories, whereas previously, manufacturers involved in the second platform were obliged to select a chassis from one of the four suppliers mentioned.

The selected manufacturers will produce chassis from 2028 until the end of 2032 and must guarantee parts availability for a minimum of 10 years, the same duration as that set for the powertrain and electronics. Potential candidates, who must already have experience building prototypes, can join the process now. The deadline for submitting applications is May 9, and the final decision will be made on June 10.

Interested parties are free to submit bids for both calls for tender. However, a candidate selected for the supply of the powertrain may not be selected for the supply of the chassis, and vice versa.

Technical details of the future LM P2:

Total length : 4750 mm
Front overhang: 1000 mm
Rear overhang: 750 mm
Maximum width: 2 000 mm
Unloaded weight : 980 kilos minimum (maximum ballast of 50 kg)
Maximum top speed: 315 km/h (at Le Mans)
Adjustable aero: rear spoiler only
Fuel tank capacity: 75 liters minimum, 80 liters maximum
Tires and rims: 690 mm maximum front diameter, 715 mm maximum rear diameter. 18-inch rims.

For comparison, the current Oreca 07 measures 4 mm long, 745 mm wide and weighs 1 kilos.
