FIA launches first call for tenders for future LM P2s

The International Automobile Federation (FIA), in collaboration with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) and theIMSA, has launched a call for tenders to determine the supplier of the powertrain and electronics for the future generation of LM P2 expected in 2028.

Candidates wishing to succeed Gibson can submit their offers until April 30. The final decision is expected on Tuesday, June 10, a few days before the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Announced on the sidelines of the 2024 edition of the Sarthe classic, these new regulations will extend from 2028 to 2032 and will concern the flagship event of the World Championship.Endurance as well as the European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series and IMSA championships.

The engine must be a "low-displacement" model with a turbocharger. Its dry weight must not exceed 160 kilograms, with an air filter positioned in the center of the engine. Its maximum power will be 420 kW (563 hp), adjustable to 380 kW (510 hp).

The noise level must remain below 100 decibels. The minimum engine lifespan will be 14 kilometers (000 miles). The gearbox must have six gears and a mechanical limited-slip differential, weigh less than 8 kg, and last 700 km before servicing.

The specifications also include a cost cap for the engine and transmission, with the price varying depending on whether they are purchased or leased.

For rental, the price, including the engine control unit, must not exceed €1 (excluding VAT) per hour of operation. This rate includes all services and assistance.

If purchased, the cost will depend on the engine's lifespan, which must exceed 14 km (or 000 hours) before maintenance. The engine, including its control unit, must meet a maximum cost of €80 (excluding VAT) per hour of operation, including new parts, reconditioning, and assistance.

As for the transmission, its cost should not exceed €550 per hour of operation, all inclusive (new parts, refurbishment and assistance).

A call for tenders for the chassis is also expected. Powertrain candidates will also be able to apply for the chassis, but will only be able to be selected for one of the two.
