From one German manufacturer to another. After 12 seasons of good and loyal service, René Rast will leave Audi and Ingolstadt at the end of the year. If the departure is confirmed, the German will not take long to find a new mark since the rest of his career is already settled. Beginning in fiscal 2023, the three-time champion of DTM (2017, 2019 and 2020) and winner of the 24 Hours of Spa and the Nürburgring will represent another firm from across the Rhine: BMW.

« René Rast will be in action behind the wheel of BMW M cars from next season, can we read in the press release from the Munich manufacturer. Numerous racing opportunities await the three-time DTM champion and winner of the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring."

Rast in LMDh?

The year 2023 will mark the great return of BMW in Endurance via the LMDh category. If she won't be in WEC and 24 Hours of Le Mans before 2024, the propeller-driven firm will make its debut in the new premier category at the next 24 Hours of Daytona (January 26 to 29) and will compete in the entire 2023 campaign of theIMSA.

For the moment, BMW has not announced any of its drivers for its LMDh program even if some officials like Connor de Philippi or Sheldon van der Linde could/should join it after trying the prototype in recent weeks. On the side of René Rast, “ details regarding the series and individual events he will compete in will be announced alongside the schedules of all other BMW M factory drivers »

If he is not required to represent the official LMDh, René Rast will still be able to represent BMW via his customer teams such as Team WRT, latest team to join forces with the German manufacturer and with which the person concerned competed in the last 24 Hours of Le Mans in LMP2.
