24 Hours of Le Mans – The Green GT has made its first laps

In the greatest secrecy, the Green GT, the first car powered by a hydrogen fuel cell to present itself at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (as well as the Test day on June 9), began its development on the circuit after a long validation phase in the laboratory, reveals AUTOhebdo. This very ambitious project financed by Franco-Swiss capital promises a revolution in the world of motorsport thanks to the energy of the future, hydrogen, which is clean and can be stored in large quantities to guarantee energy efficiency and autonomy that a battery electric vehicle will not be able to oppose.

This first session, spread over several days, began on a small circuit in Switzerland, before continuing on the Ecole de Magny-Cours track, in Burgundy. The Italian driver Christian Pescatori was at the wheel and was able to complete several series of 5 laps with the aim of validating certain technical solutions of the traction chain (fuel cell and electric motorization). No technical problem has come to disrupt this always critical phase in the life of a racing car. “We gathered a lot of information during these three running sessions, in particular concerning the stability of the fuel cell and the aerodynamic balance. We will now return to our workshops to evolve the GreenGT H2 from the laboratory version to the racing version, in order to continue our development program,” said Jean-François Weber, director in charge of the Green GT program.

Development will now continue in the coming weeks, particularly on the Paul-Ricard circuit.

The first public appearance of the Green GT will therefore take place on June 9, at Le Mans, during the Test day.
