To 24 Hours of Le Mans, WRT has lost its splendor. Untouchable since its coronation in Sarthe last year, the Belgian team had a series of problems a year later and none of the three cars entered managed to place themselves on the podium at the finish. Nos. 31 and 41 return this weekend to the WEC with the 6 Hours of Monza, fourth round of the season, where the Belgian team wants to return to success in its LM P2 category to hope to once again believe in the title, on a track where it had signed its first pole position in the championship in 2021 through Charles Milesi, who has since joined the Richard Mille Racing Team.

“We are always happy to go to Monza, which is nicknamed the Temple of Speed for very good reasons. We were fast there last year, in our first season in the WEC, and took pole, remembers Vincent Vosse, the Team Principal. Let's hope it will be the same this year. We proved at Spa and Le Mans that we have a great level of performance, here we have to convert speed into great results. As for the championship, it is clear that we had our bad day in the worst race where this could happen, Le Mans. With three more rounds to go, nothing is theoretically lost, but obviously we are not in the best position. This means we only have one option: don't worry about what our rivals are doing and go for it! »

“We had a very good race at Monza last year, we were very competitive, we got our first pole and without a small strategy error we would have won the race, adds Robin Frijns. This year we won at Spa, while we were disappointed at Le Mans, but I think we have the pace to be in the lead. We have a bit of pressure to close the gap to Jota, and the goal is to win to reduce that gap as much as possible. »

The No. 31 WRT, reigning champion, has indeed fallen to fourth place in the standings after Le Mans, with 53 points. 24 units behind the #38 Jota, which is at the top of the LM P2 category.
