As is their custom, the ACO and the FIA have waited until the last minute to unveil the Balance of Performance (BoP) for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, which will take place this weekend from May 8 to 10. For the Belgian event – a traditional preparation event ahead of the 24H of Le Mans (June 14-15) – This BoP has evolved considerably compared to the one applied at Imola last April. There were winners and, above all, big losers.
Among the manufacturers who will benefit from this BoP, we find in particular: Aston MartinAfter a difficult start with the Valkyrie, the Gaydon-based company has received a nice boost from the ACO, with 16 kg less on the scale and 15 kW (or 20 hp) of additional power for the British Hypercar. On the other hand, the Valkyrie will lose 2,7% of power beyond 250 km/h. Peugeot is also one of the manufacturers helped by this BoP since its limitations do not change compared to Imola and remain at the maximum values authorized by the regulations (520 kW of power, 1030 kg).
Besides Peugeot and Aston Martin, all other manufacturers are gaining weight and losing power (except Alpine, which gains 1 kW of power at Spa). The two manufacturers most handicapped by this new BoP are Toyota et Ferrari, who dominate this start of the season in WECOn the Japanese side, the GR010 gains 4 kg and loses 20 kW (or 27 hp) of power to fall to only 480 kW of power, 40 less than Peugeot! On the Italian side, the 499P finds itself weighed down by an additional 12 kg and loses 19 kW of power. However, Toyota and Ferrari will have more power available beyond 250 km/h, with a power gain of 8,3% and 3,7% respectively once this speed is reached.
