6H Imola: Audi prepares for the fight

The 6 Hours of Imola promises another sensational fight between Peugeot and Audi. The Lion starts on pole with the #908 7 of Anthony Davidson who will share the first row of the grid with the #18 Audi R1. Marcel Fassler was faster than Stéphane Sarrazin, who set the fourth fastest time in the #908 8. But the Frenchman beat Allan McNish, fifth on the No. 18 R2.

If Marcel Fassler, victorious in the 79th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, failed to set the best time, the Swiss remains satisfied with his result. “I am happy with my turn”, admits Timo Bernhard's teammate. “The R18 performed very well. However, it was very difficult to find the braking points because we did not have much time for free practice (second session disrupted by rain). We had a lot of traffic and I was only able to do one real lap. I remain optimistic because the R18 is very good over long distances. But race traffic will probably be the biggest problem. »

Allan McNish also complains about the traffic and fears the lack of experience he suffers from with his teammate Tom Kristensen. “As we weren't able to gain much experience with our prototype during free practice, I did my best in qualifying. The balance of the car was good. I was hampered by traffic after my first lap. To be honest, the race will be very difficult. Tom Kristensen takes part in his first race at Imola. I've been here before, but we were only able to do a few laps with the R18. But we are here to fight and that is exactly what we are going to do. »

The start of the 6 Hours of Imola will be given tomorrow at 12 p.m.
