Alonso: “Nothing new” regarding Le Mans

Fernando Alonso has already admitted it on numerous occasions: to dispute the 24 Hours of Le Mans remains a long-term objective for the double world champion F1. The pilot McLaren had, during the awards ceremony WEC in Bahrain, sent a video message to Mark Webber, where he wanted to ask questions to the former pilot Red Bull at the moment of “joining the adventure”.

In the Abu Dhabi paddock, the Spaniard commented on this statement. “There is nothing new in what I said in this message which is very famous at the moment, underlines Alonso. But nothing new, really. I am 100% involved in F1 in 2017 with the team.

Looking ahead, there's no doubt that the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a very attractive challenge because I like the category, I like the cars and it's a good challenge. But I don't know if that future means two years, five years or eleven years. I don't know yet, so there's nothing new. »

Returning to McLaren to return to the top after a stint at Ferrari and the possibility of a third world title soaring in 2010 and 2012, the ex-driver of Maranello recalls his primary objective for the rest of his career with the McLaren-Honda duo.

“The first thing I want to do, and I’m going to do it, is win a third title. Then I'll see. » Alonso will be supported by Stoffel Vandoorne in 2017, who will succeed Jenson Button at McLaren, the Briton having announced this Thursday at a press conference that the Abu Dhabi event could well be his last in F1.
