Antonio Giovinazzi had already shown earlier in the weekend that he had pace on the resurfaced tarmac of the Circuit of the Americas. The former Formula 1 (62 Grand Prix starts) confirmed this by signing the Lone Star Hyperpole Le Mans in Austin (Texas) this Saturday. He beat Robert Kubica (AF Corse n°83) for a front row locked by the prototypes of Maranello.

« Thanks to Ferrari and my teammates, we have shown since FP1 that we have a fast car with a lot of pace, Giovinazzi commented at a press conference. Yesterday we were at the front and today we did some very good laps again in FP3, before getting pinned for track limits. I did two good laps, in qualifying and in Hyperpole, so I'm very happy with the performance we did. Yesterday in race pace it was also very good, so we'll have to finish the job in the race. Today is a good day, we have to celebrate it, but I'm already focused on tomorrow, to do a good job. This year the #51 crew is not having the results it deserves given its pace, so this Sunday we'll have to reverse this trend. »

« The biggest change in terms of grip was mainly between yesterday and today, honestly, continues the Transalpin about the resurfacing of the route between the end of July and the beginning of August. In FP1, the grip was very low on the resurfaced sections, and today there was definitely more grip. The grip increased slightly again between FP3 and qualifying, but overall it's a better track than in July testing, where the track was really bumpy. It's really nice to drive here now, and with this very good car, it gave me a good feeling on this lap. You can really push in the first sector here, this car is not far from the F1 here. »

« Having the #83 alongside me is very good for Ferrari, we can manage and use that to our advantage in race pace, Judge Giovinazzi. The #50 is not far either, it proves that our car is fast. We will have to be good on strategy, even if we will have to wait and see what the weather will be like on Sunday. We will try to be smart to bring back a good result. »

Join us at 20:00 p.m. (French time) this Sunday for the start of Lone Star Le Mans, the sixth round of the World Championship.Endurance of the FIA 2024.
