After the LM P2 category, victory objective in Hypercar for Jota

In 2023, Jota will make its appearance in Hypercar with the new Porsche 963. The British team which won in LM P2 at the last 24 Hours of Le Mans wants to aim for victory in its first year in its premier category.

The adage that all comes to those who wait is not really to Jota's taste. The British team will make its appearance in the Hypercar of the World Endurance Championship next season. Finished the Oreca 07 and now it's time for Porsche 963. But for his first year in this category, Jota has set himself a clear objective: to achieve victory.

« We have confidence in how the rules are written and what Porsche is going to do so that we have the right equipment to fight for victories », Announces Sam Hignett, the boss of the British team. To triumph, Jota will have to overtake the Porsche Penske Motorsport team in Hypercar. The path to success, his team knows it well since this year Jota notably won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LM P2 category.

Without this objective of victories from the first season, the British team would certainly not have embarked on this new project. “ This is the only reason why we are going in this direction: we have always said that we would only move up in category if we were able to put together a team capable of fighting for direct victories., explains Sam Hignett. In WEC, Jota was one of the first teams to trust the German brand's latest creation, the Porsche 963.

No constraints in the choice of drivers for Jota

For this new event, Jota will be accompanied by Hertz. These two collaborations with the American company and the German manufacturer will have no impact on the choice of drivers lined up next year. The team boss was keen to point out that the contract with Hertz remained “ a trade agreement » and that Porsche will not impose drivers on Jota. However, Sam Hignett admits that “ this can give them several options » to recover a holder of the German manufacturer. No names have yet been announced to be at the helm of Jota's Porsche 963 in the WEC next year.

« Everyone knows that Porsche is the only possibility of being there in 2023 (in the Hypercar category. Editor's note) and our philosophy has always been to get in from day one.r, says Sam Hignett. We hope that delivery will be in time for all the tests we wish to carry out. But, we are very confident that the product we will receive will be a turnkey car, which is always the case with Porsche. »

At Jota, there are still some shadows on the board. If it has chosen to enter Hypercar, it is not certain that the British team will also be involved in LM P2. “ This is a question we can't answer at this time, but we need to put all of our LMP resources behind this program “, says Sam Hignett. After triumphing in LM P2, Jota already seems ready to tackle the higher category and is making an appointment next year in Hypercar.
