Audi snatches pole from Porsche

Audi Sport returned to pole position at the 6 Hours of Mexico. Lucas di Grassi and Loïc duval signed an average time of 1'24''838 in the No. 18 Audi R8 and beat the Porsche 919 Hybrid n°2 by Neel Jani and Marc Lieb. The second row will be similar with the #7 Audi of Marcel Fässler and André Lotterer third with half a tenth ahead of the #1 Porsche of Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber.

The Toyota are still behind since the TS050 Hybrid n°5 of Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Najima took fifth place almost nine-tenths off the benchmark, while Sarrazin's No. 5 sister car-Conway-Kobayashi who missed the first day of testing failed by more than two seconds.

The session was interrupted three minutes from the checkered flag following the exit of the track Nicolas lapierre on'Alpine A460b. The Frenchman hit the barriers, forcing the marshals to display the red flag.

The No. 36 of Lapierre-Menezes-Richelmi nevertheless took second place in the category, three tenths behind the No. 2 Ligier JS P43-Nissan of RGR Sport by Morand of Ricardo Gonzales and Bruno Senna who took pole for the category with an average time of 1'35''485. The Strakka Racing Gibson 015S of Leventis-Williamson-Kane took third place while G-Drive Racing placed a fourth manufacturer at the forefront with its Oreca 05 entrusted to Rusinov-Rast-Brundle.

In GTE Pro, Nicki Thiim and Marco Sorensen won their second pole in a row at the wheel of theAston Martin Vantage n°95 with an average time of 1’40”458. The category's benchmark crew was ahead of the No. 97 sister car of Darren Turner and Richie Stanaway by a tenth.

James Calado and Gianmaria Bruni followed in third place on the Ferrari 488 n°51 from AF Corse more than half a second late. The Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR of Lietz-Christensen and the No. 71 AF Corse Ferrari of Rigon-Bird completed the top five ahead of the two Ford GTs.

Pedro Lamy and Paul Dalla-Lana took GTE Am pole in the #98 Vantage equipped with Michelin tires for the first time.
