Audi hopes for some luck in Bahrain

After dominating the planet Endurance in 2012 and 2013, Audi had to cede its Manufacturer crowns to Toyota last year, then Porsche this season, as well as his throne at 24 Hours of Le Mans. The brand with the rings, however, still remains in the match in the Drivers classification, Benoît Tréluyer, Marcel Fässler and André Lotterer still able to win the title this weekend in Bahrain.

On the Sakhir track, the drivers of the No. 18 R7 e-tron quattro will, however, have to erase a 12-point gap on the current championship leaders. Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Berhnard, to hope to achieve a second crown after 2012.

Facing the trio of the No. 919 17 Hybrid, winner of the last four rounds of the WEC, Audi does not intend to give up anything even if in pure performance, their rivals should be a notch above. “We are going to give everything and hope for a little luck to win the championship again, confesses Chris Reinke, LMP manager at Audi Sport. There is no question of giving up. As long as there is a chance, we will fight. In difficult conditions such as those in Bahrain, anything is possible. »

Winner of the first two events at Silverstone in Great Britain, and Spa in Belgium, the Tréluyer crew? Fassler? Lotterer has been on the podium at every round since Le Mans, but has regularly lost out to the second official Porsche, which could well play the team race again if necessary this weekend.
