Record audiences for the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans

The figures are staggering for a virtual event, but the ACO has confirmed record audiences of 63 million fans who followed the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual last weekend on the rFactor 2 platform. The organizers were greatly helped by the ease of digital tools allowing massive broadcasting of the race.

However, these figures should be taken with perspective since the cumulative audience on TV channels (such as Eurosport, ESPN, Sky Sports and J-Sports) has already reached 14,2 million viewers. The power of the Internet did the rest with 49 million “cumulative social media impressions”.

“The first edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual was worthy of the Le Mans name, and perfectly captured the emotion, tension and magic experienced in real life every year in June. Our congratulations to all the competitors and all the teams who made this exceptional event possible”, declared Pierre Fillon, president of the ACO.

To support its figures, the ACO also indicated that the Alkamel timing system had recorded 13 million connections. In total, 130 people were needed to manage the event with production, marketing, media, digital, TV, logistics, etc.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans have been postponed to September 19 and 20 following the Covid-19 pandemic.
