Augusto Farfus will focus on GT in 2019

It's a bit like the end of an era for Augustus Farfus. A big regular at touring events (WTCC then DTM since the mid-2000s), the Brazilian will focus on the GT categories in 2019, still on behalf of Bmw motorsport.

Twice third in the WTCC in 2006 (Alfa Romeo) and 2009 (BMW), Farfus moved towards the DTM in 2012 during Munich's return to the championship, winning the title of vice-champion in 2013. The native of Curitiba, however, had never abandoned GT, with a good number of participations in GT3 or GTE, notably in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

These two categories will remain the main programs of Farfus in 2019, with the emphasis placed on WEC with the new M8 GTE operated by Team MTEK. Farfus will also be entered in GT3 with the M6, which has notably triumphed twice in the last three years at the 24 Hours of Spa.

“The decision to turn our back on the DTM was obviously not taken lightly, highlights Farfus. It is without a doubt the best touring car series in the world and I have always felt very comfortable in the DTM family and the BMW teams.

I learned a lot, I was able to demonstrate my speed and I even played the title. It was an incredible time. However, anyone who knows me knows how much I love GT racing. I felt it was time to embark on a new chapter. I am very grateful to BMW for accepting my decision and giving me the opportunity to continue driving BMWs at the highest level. »
