Bahrain, WEC 2019-2020 final?

The Coronavirus crisis has forced all championships to review their calendars. But everyone’s mission is not simple. In fact, everyone is trying to find new dates for the postponed races, but inevitably there is a traffic jam.

If we were heading towards a cancellation and not a postponement of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps – initially scheduled for April 25 – the Belgian circuit could finally host the antepenultimate round of the WEC, mid August. Just two weeks before the Grand Prix of Formula 1, if it is maintained on the scheduled date. But yesterday, it was Silverstone which held the rope. To be continued…

What about the finale? If we campaigned for a grand curtain lowering at Sebring on November 14 as part of a joint meeting with theIMSA, we are not taking this path, notably for obvious financial reasons. No, in all likelihood, the closing round of the current campaign will be held in Bahrain, for an eight-hour race, at the end of November.

As we revealed to you, the 24 Hours of Le Mans would therefore not serve as a final. In reality, the 2019 edition could be a unique case in this sense, because from next year, we should return to a more classic pattern, with seasons taking place over a single calendar year. If such a scenario had the merit of closing the debates with the flagship event of the calendar, it would generate some complications for the protagonists on a fiscal level.
