How will Technology Equivalence be defined in LM P1 in 2018-2019?

At the start of a Super-Season which will see an almost entirely renewed peloton compete in LM P1, the method of determining Technology Equivalence has been defined in the sporting regulations unveiled by the FIA.

This process should allow the different prototypes entered (hybrid, turbo engine, etc.) to be able to compete regularly on the track. Non-hybrid LM P1s will thus be able to have their performance adapted according to the following conditions:

“The benchmark will be the calculation of the average lap times of the fastest car of each technology. The average lap time will be calculated over the number of laps corresponding to 20% of the race distance (average of best laps).

The models of the slowest technology cars must have participated in at least two races and must have been regularly classified to be able to benefit from the application of the rule. The first performance adjustment may be applied at any time by the Committee Endurance."

This method of calculation will be applicable until 24 Hours of Le Mans 2018 inclusive, and the data sent by manufacturers and competitors to the FIA will be taken into account. Any attempt to provide “erroneous” data or any “unexpected” performance may be punished with a minimum penalty of a 5’ stop&go.
