Corvette Racing wants to celebrate its 20th participation at Le Mans in style

The Corvette Racing team is officially celebrating its 20th anniversary at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2019, through several banners and anniversary hospitality in the paddock. However, the American team arrived in Sarthe in 2000, and not in 1999! We can therefore speak of the 20th year of participation. This little marketing arrangement does not hide the ambitions of the team managed by Doug Fehan.

“We didn’t win with the Corvette in Imsa since 2017, specifies Antonio Garcia, author of the best lap in Qualif 1 on Wednesday evening (time canceled because it was carried out during the yellow flag phase. Editor's note). It's been too long. I would be happy to break this streak at Le Mans! We have been close to victory in recent years. Everyone is well prepared, as soon as you win at Le Mans you want to taste that feeling again. » In 2017, Jordan Taylor lost an exceptional duel for first place in the final laps.

“Le Mans is a beast, completes Oliver Gavin. Sometimes this race is on your side, and other times it is absolutely horrible. You fight against it all week. But that’s one reason why it’s a great event. »

Jan Magnussen points out that one of the keys to success is concentration. “We need to focus on the work strategy and execute each area of the race in the best possible way. That’s what we’ve always done at Corvette Racing, keep the original plan in mind. It's up to us to avoid worrying about what our opponents are doing and to keep faith in our tactics. »

Finally, perhaps the drivers’ love for the Sarthe circuit is an additional ingredient to give 200%. “When I started my career, remembers Mike Rockenfeller, I went to Le Mans to watch the race. I was 18, I walked along the track at night, I saw the speed of the cars, the reddening brake discs, the sparks thrown up by the cars. These are images that remain engraved in me”, explains the former Audi driver in LM P1.
