The activities of Hyundai will expand in the future. In addition to the WRC, the South Korean firm will tackle a new world championship, that ofEndurance. Entry will be in the Hypercar category from the 2026 season and under the name Genesis Magma Racing, before an extension of the program to theIMSA from 2027.

The manufacturer unveiled the first lines of its project this week in Dubai, including the presentation of a reduced-size version of its future prototype: the Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar. In addition, the brand's first two official drivers were revealed with André Lotterer and Luís Felipe "Pipo" Derani.

Abiteboul “proud” of this opportunity

To oversee this new project, Hyundai has directly called upon its Motorsport Director Cyril Abiteboul. The former team principal of Renault en F1 will therefore initially alternate between the WRC, where he gave the brand its first Drivers' title with Thierry Neuville this year, and the WEC. A great joy for the one who dreamed of one day competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

« I will be the team manager of Genesis Magma Racing, entrusts the Tricolore in an interview for the WEC website. Building teams is really something I love to do, developing and shaping organizations, so that's what I'm going to do, at least for the first period, the interim period of the race team. It's going to be very difficult with everything that's going on, but I'll dedicate enough time to it.

Endurance racing and Le Mans are a dream of mine, as they probably are for everyone who is interested in motorsport. I am very lucky to have worked in F1 and at great circuits like Silverstone and Monaco. In the WRC, winning at Monte Carlo and Sweden was something really special. I love Le Mans and have been there many times. It is obviously an integral part of the global motorsport culture and it happens to be in France and I am French, so I am very proud to finally have the opportunity to race there. »
