Death of Dave Maraj

A figure of endurance and 24 Hours of Le Mans left us last weekend. Dave Maraj, 65, died Saturday in a boating accident in Florida.

Founder of Champion Motors and major dealer Porsche, Maraj distinguished himself as team boss in the American Le Mans Series in 2004 with the Teams title in LM P1. A year later, it was at the 24 Hours of Le Mans that Champion Racing won its greatest title with an Audi R8 entrusted to the trio Lehto – Kristensen – Werner.

Four other ALMS crowns will follow, including three under the Audi Sport North America banner, in the wake of Le Mans' consecration, Audi having made no mistake about the potential of Dave Maraj's structure.

“All of us within theIMSA We are shocked and saddened by the news of the death of Dave Maraj, comments Scott Atherton, president of the American entity.

As a team owner in the American Le Mans Series, Dave and his Champion Racing structure have been the pinnacle of professionalism and excellence, as evidenced by their five consecutive championships and victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Dave was a tremendous competitor and a great friend to everyone in the paddock throughout his time in our sport. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave's family and friends and all of his associates at Champion Motors. »

The entire AUTOhebdo editorial team sends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Dave Maraj.
