Tire tests for LM P1 in Shanghai

Due to the fact that they took to the track very late, the LM P1 Non-Hybrid teams did not give Michelin the opportunity to work on products totally adapted to their mounts which, moreover, have evolved greatly since their first ride.

The latter are therefore equipped with rubber closely derived from those provided for the LM P1 Hybrids, which have a non-permanent four-wheel drive transmission. The Rebellion R13 and the BR1 therefore tend to overheat their rear tires and have difficulty heating up the front tires.

Thus, a 1h45 test session was added to the program for the 6 Hours of Shanghai to allow the LMP1 teams to carry out development tests with Michelin, currently the sole tire supplier in the category. This session will take place on Friday, November 19 from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. This addition will allow both the teams and the Clermont-based manufacturer to test and develop the tires of the future.

A very judicious decision, especially since the season takes place over two calendar years, so-called winter tests are no longer relevant. After China, the cars will be in freight heading to Sebring (Florida), which will host the sixth round of the 2018-2019 campaign on March 15.
