When we think of an “uncrowned champion”, the figure of Stirling Moss appears first among enthusiasts. But France also had its Poulidor, more specifically in Endurance.
Bob Wollek, whose 16th commemoration of his death at Sebring is being celebrated this March 2020, 19, left his mark on the 24 Hours of Le Mans, without winning the Sarthe race: 3 poles and 6 podiums: 4 times second, twice third but never first!
Fortunately, Bob Wollek made up for it at the two most famous endurance races across the Atlantic, namely Daytona and Sebring. The Alsatian's 1985 season will be remembered, with a double on the two Florida tracks.
Bob Wollek finds himself at the controls of two Porsche 962s. At Daytona, he teams up with a shock group, made up of Belgian hopeful Thierry Boutsen and American star AJ Foyt and Al Unser (beginner in Imsa) within the team Brumos.
The Frenchman's task will be more difficult than expected because of a bad flu (not Covid-19). Relive the ordeal in a summary of almost an hour:
A few weeks later, AJ Foyt and Bob Wollek will meet again for the 12 Hours of Daytona, still with a copy of the legendary Porsche 962. Immerse yourself in an era when speeds were unlimited in the pits, and where the safety rails seemed fine fragile:
