Endurance – Gibson Technology will power the LM P2

We now know the name of the engine manufacturer who will equip the various LM P2 prototypes by 2017, the year of introduction of the new regulations which will govern the category. The British firm Gibson Technology (whose 015S chassis evolves notably in ELMS this year) was selected by the selection committees of the FIA, the ACO and theIMSA to supply a 8-liter naturally aspirated V4, developing 600 hp. Reducing costs remains the major objective of implementing such a measure.

In the FIA and ACO championships, all prototypes from of the four chassis manufacturers already revealed last July (Dallara, Onroak Automotive, Oreca and the Riley Tech / Multimatic association) will ship this engine block, the full technical specifications of which will be revealed subsequently.

The WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series (future name of the current United Sportscar Championship) will nevertheless retain its diversity in terms of suppliers, but the single engine will be accepted on the other side of the Atlantic, a balancing of forces being expected.

In addition to Gibson Technology, Cosworth Electronics has also been chosen as the sole electronic supplier by the FIA, ACO and IMSA bodies. This choice will notably allow engine performance control between the ACO/FIA versions and the American engines.
