Ford confirms its drivers for 2016

AUTOhebdo has been reporting this to you for several weeks now (see Ah n°2040 in particular), Olivier Pla, Stefan Mücke, Andy Priaulx and Marino Franchitti have been confirmed by Ford to drive the Ford GTs lined up in WEC in GTE Pro in 2016 by Chip Ganassi Racing in collaboration with Multimatic. George Howard-Chappell will be the Team Principal of the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing entity which has not yet specified the distribution of crews.

After a 2015 season within Nissan's LM P1 program, Toulouse-based Olivier Pla is embarking on a new adventure, this time in GT. He will find regulars in the category in the person of the German Stefan Mücke, cornerstone of the Aston Martin Racing in recent years, or even the British Andy Priaulx, seen in recent seasons on the BMW Z4 GTE in the United States or in Europe Le Mans Series.

The Briton Marino Franchitti completes the quartet and is no stranger to Chip Ganassi, since the younger brother of the former star of IndyCar Series Dario Franchitti won the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2014 with the American team.

Ford Chip Ganassi Racing, which will also lead the program IMSA this year, had already formalized its drivers for the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship at the end of 2015. Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais will join Ganassi for the endurance events on the other side of the Atlantic in the No. 66 car as confirmed by the American team this Tuesday. Stefan Mücke will also contest the opening round of the WTSC alongside Richard Westbrook and Ryan Briscoe in the No. 67.
