Gené: “We will come back stronger”

Marc Gené, pilot of the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP n°1 during the last 24 Hours of Le Mans, was part of the crew on which the hopes of the French manufacturer rested on June 13 in Sarthe. After the retirement of the #908 and #3 2s, the #1 then found itself third, chasing behind the two leading Audi R15 TDIs. Before, like the No. 2 and, later, the 908 No. 4 from Oreca, it suffered an engine problem. For the Spanish driver, the pace of the 908, which some observers considered too high, should not be called into question.

« I do not think so, he commented for Crash.net Radio. Cars are made to go to the limit. When we did tests, we always drove at the limit and everything always went well. I drove as fast as I could during all these sessions, as well as at Sebring, and we never encountered this problem before. »

Furthermore, the Peugeot Sport driver believes that, without the engine problem encountered, the Peugeot n°1 could prevent the double hoped for by Audi, which ultimately turned into a triple after the abandonment of all the 908s.

« LSecond place was entirely possible, and it would have even been close for first place. It's a shame, because it would have been great to come back from three laps behind. But the team and the three drivers did a very good job. We will learn from what happened and now we want to work hard, to be better prepared for 2011. At least we know we had a fast car and we will come back stronger. »
