Grosjean: “Want to come back”

Romain Grosjean, who took part in his first 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, finished in the early hours of Sunday morning with the engine of his Ford GT broken. The Franco-Swiss driver would like to return in 2011… unless F1 extends its arms to him.

Grosjean: “Want to come back”

Romain, you have completed the 24 Hours of Le Mans after a little more than half the race, engine failure. Was this to be expected?
It’s true that we took on a very big challenge. Le Mans is crazy: the atmosphere, the party, the race, the week? It's incredible. I really want to come back. From a sporting point of view, it's sad because everyone worked extremely hard to set up this project even though the car was not made for an endurance race. It?s the same as in the GT1 World Championship, usually it only runs for an hour. An engine failure is a shame. But what a great experience. I want to come back.

Did your first participation leave an impression on you?

Yes ! The departure especially, the Marseillaise sung by the public, nightfall over Indianapolis, you can no longer see anything because you have the sun in your eyes? At night, the atmosphere, the barbecues, the smells of merguez, it?s enormous. You have a smell of burnt rubber because you stuck when braking and then it's gone, it's? It?s Le Mans.

So you hope to come back here in 2011?
If I'm not in F1, Yes.

So better F1 than Le Mans?
For the moment, it remains option no. 1.
