ILMC: Aston Martin skips Spa

As during the 6 Hours of Le Castellet, Aston Martin encountered many problems with his AMR-One during the test day of 24 Hours of Le Mans. It?s in terms of the engine – a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder. of displacement with direct injection – let the shoe pinches. In the Sarthe last Sunday, it was the coating of the cylinder liner which thwarted the plans of the British brand.

In order to concentrate on the fine-tuning and development of the car, the Gaydon firm therefore decided not to take part in the 1000 km of Spa-Francorchamps on May 8, the second round of the ILMC.

“We could go to Spa in May, but this race would not allow us to achieve everything we want to do, underlines Aston Martin Racing boss David Richards. We must continue our testing of the engine, aerodynamics and endurance tests at our own pace. »

The ambitious AMR-One project, which extends over three years, is only in its infancy. But it is certain that Technical Director Georges Howard-Chappell and his engineers have their work cut out for them to get things back on track by mid-June?

Discover in your AUTOhebdo magazine, currently on newsstands, an 18-page analysis of the test day of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with a particular focus on the misadventures of Aston Martin Racing.
