Vanwall continues its testing with a view to possible participation in the 2023 season of WEC as well as the Centenary of 24 Hours of Le Mans. After Paul-Ricard or Mugello in recent weeks, it is in Barcelona that the Hypercar of Colin Kolles' structure continues to run. In addition to the usual development staff, Tom Dillmann and Esteban Guernieri, another driver has settled in the LMH in Catalonia. And not just any one, since it was neither more nor less than Jacques Villeneuve. The team confirmed the rumor of the last few days by sharing a photo of the Canadian driver at the wheel of his prototype.

Is this a simple desire to generate interest around the project, a real desire to bring Jacques Villeneuve back in Endurance or just a simple pleasure for the Canadian? The 51-year-old driver has two participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans to his credit, in 2007 and 2008, both with Peugeot . The first attempt ended in retirement before a second place the following year alongside the Frenchman Nicolas Minassian and the Spaniard Marc Gené at the wheel of the 908 HDi FAP from the Lion brand. The trio had also won the Spa 1000km a month earlier. Remember that Collin Kolles' team is not guaranteed to participate in the FIA World Endurance Championship next season due to an imbroglio surrounding the Vanwall name, which has already caused it to be removed from the WEC for 2022.

Jacques Villeneuve has not remained inactive in recent years, notably distinguishing himself in the Whelen Euro Series. The Quebecer also showed that he still had good leftovers by settling into a Alpine F1 in Monza last September.

His participation in the Daytona 500 is much more credible than his test with theAlpine A521. The fact remains that in 2007/0208 he was behind compared to his teammates at Peugeot!
