Discreetly, Peugeot finished in the points twice in the first two rounds of the season in Qatar and Imola. On both occasions, the No. 93 of Paul di Resta, Mikkel Jensen, and Jean-Éric Vergne finished ninth. In Belgium, for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps this weekend, the Frenchman hopes to see his car move up the order of the day and possibly fight for a place in the top five.
« In the first two races, we showed an interesting level of performance, Vergne told certain media outlets including AUTOhebdo before the start of the weekend. We were on pace and in a position to play for points. At Imola, qualifying went well and the start of the race was encouraging, but the rest was more complicated, with several collisions. Paul (di Resta) got pushed, which put us in traffic. I spent many laps behind a Porsche, which I could almost draw, having seen it so much. Despite this, our progress is clear. We are on the right track. I have a lot of hope for the future and for being able to achieve better results. »
« I hope we can fight for a top 5 this weekend. " added the former pilot Toro Rosso en Formula 1. Last year at Spa-Francorchamps, Peugeot achieved a 10th place with the No. 93 then driven by Jensen and Nico Müller, now at Porsche. Jean-Éric Vergne was not present since he was entered the same weekend in Formula E.
Peugeot can still make progress on tire degradation, according to Vergne
Peugeot has prepared this last one before the meeting before that of the 24 Hours of Le Mans by a driving session on the Toboggan des Ardennes. The Spa-Francorchamps circuit was resurfaced after the race on WEC in 2024, so it was very important to race there before this edition of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, explains Olivier Jansonnie, technical director of Peugeot Sport. The circuit is much faster now. The weather conditions were good – unlike those encountered during our run before Imola – and we were able to complete our entire test program. It was a very interesting day. I think we are well prepared for the race, provided the weather is good. »
Vergne believes that Peugeot can still make progress on tire degradation. This is an important topic on any circuit ", he believes. The resurfacing of the route could help the French manufacturer in this regard. Spa-Francorchamps was quite punishing last year, but they've resurfaced the asphalt, it should have more grip and so the degradation should be lower. »
