Kevin Magnussen: "In many ways, WEC is more difficult than F1"

While the season of Formula 1 resumed in Australia last weekend, Kevin Magnussen continues his career away from the premier class of motorsport. The Dane, not retained in his role as a starter at Haas, now evolves into Endurance with BMW.

After making his debut with the German manufacturer at the 24 Hours of Daytona at the end of January, where he finished just off the podium, Magnussen contested his first race in the World Endurance Championship at the 1812 km of Qatar, a race he once again finished in fourth place alongside Dries Vanthoor and Raffaele Marciello.

« Many things are similar (to F1), and some are very different, Magnussen says on the WEC website. Of course, sharing the car with other drivers means you have to work well with them, which is a big part of what I love about endurance racing: you really work together with your teammates. It's not like Formula 1, where your teammate is a fierce competitor. The environment and atmosphere are very different, but in a very positive way. »

« The operational side here at BMW and Team WRT is of a very high level, so it's not even a step backwards and the Hypercar category is super competitive at the moment, with so many manufacturers on the grid., adds Magnussen. It was a golden age for endurance racing and, in many ways, the WEC is tougher than Formula 1. It's very close and the balance of performance works well, which means we all have a chance. »

« The field is full of talented and experienced drivers – all the teams have excellent crews – and it's a great place to be. We have high hopes for the season and we will fight at the top, and of course, win the 24 Hours of Le Mans is our ultimate goal. It's an exciting time to be involved. »

Kmag is right, the WEC has been offering an incredible championship since the arrival of the Hypercar regulations and it has put endurance racing on par with F1 in terms of overtaking on track and suspense.
