The ACO and GreenGT launch the H24Racing team

After presenting his MissonH24 project last September at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), the Automobile Club de l'Ouest joined forces with GreenGT to create the H24Racing team dedicated to hydrogen technology.

The objective of the project is to align prototypes powered by hydrogen against thermal cars. The ACO is working on creating a new class with this new energy.

“Starting a racing team always comes with excitement, enthusiasm, curiosity and promise., comments Pierre Fillon, president of the ACO. Today, with the arrival of H24Racing in the world of motorsport, I cannot hide a certain satisfaction. This team, this team which will engage in the competition, embodies the work of an entity, GreenGT, which has acquired over the years undeniable know-how in research, development, and implementation in the universe mobility of high-power electric-hydrogen propulsion systems. »

“Last September, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest launched MissionH24 with GreenGT, with the aim of promoting hydrogen and the high-performance, completely carbon-free solutions it offers, through the organization of events or meetings. words. The aim is to make advances applying to this energy accessible to as many people as possible. This is the goal of the ACO and its events. »

“With H24Racing, the result of a common vision and participatory collaboration between the ACO and GreenGT, this promotion now takes on a sporting dimension, a demonstration that could not be more concrete. This technology will fight, confront other types of energy, fuels, on the track. This is why I cannot hide my satisfaction today because in 2024, the 24 Hours of Le Mans will welcome a category dedicated to hydrogen. But be careful, this satisfaction of the day does not prove to be in any way limiting, on the contrary, it marks the beginning of a formidable challenge, which it launches tomorrow. It all starts today with and for H24Racing! », enthuses Pierre Fillon.

“In 2012, when the World ChampionshipEndurance of the FIA welcomed the first hybrid prototypes, the Endurance led the way. She was a pioneer, assures Gérard Neveu, the general director of WEC and ELMS. Today, with MissionH24 and H24Racing, the sporting expression of the convictions of the ACO and GreenGT regarding hydrogen, our series, our championships will enter a new dimension. They will be the test bed, the launching base to achieve the stated objective of MissionH24: a category of Hydrogen cars at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2024. We are racing in the present and we are racing for the future. »

“Five seasons and a few months separate us from the 24 2024 Hours of Le Mans, puts Jean-Michel Bouresche, the general director of H24Racing, into perspective. Five seasons during which H24Racing will engage in medium and long distance events to test electric-hydrogen technology thanks to the LMPH2G prototype. Powered by a high-power electric-hydrogen energy module created by GreenGT, it has just completed the first phase of its development during which its technical configuration was defined. The second phase, which is now opening, is a search for performance, speed and endurance. The third, which will begin during 2019, will see the LMPH2G confront adversity, in competition, under the colors of H24Racing. It is the future of the automobile that we are going to write. »

GreenGT found a major project after working on a first project with the GreenGT H2 which was to occupy the 56th pit at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2013. This car was to operate with fuel cell technology.

“As President of GreenGT, it was given to me to define, above all else, the mission of our engineering company, which is to offer its customers high-power electric-hydrogen solutions, representing an alternative to motorized engines. current, comments Christophe Ricard. More recently, and in view of the enthusiasm of mobility players for hydrogen, we understood that we had to refine our concept of “high power” with that of “power density”, it being understood that this is not a question of not only to define a minimum quantity of Kw per motorized unit, but to optimize as much as possible the relationship between weight, size and power. »

“What better indicator in these conditions than motor racing where this approach can be fully expressed. This is why GreenGT, in partnership with the ACO, has chosen to invest in this new challenge which combines not only endurance with sustainable performance, but also technology with emotion. I would particularly like to thank the ACO in the person of Pierre Fillon, its President, who since the beginnings of GreenGT has always believed in our abilities to meet the formidable challenge that is ours, and for offering us today a field of unrivaled expression », added the president of the Swiss company.
