The 03, the first LMP2 Oreca

As your AUTOhebdo magazine announced to you, Oreca has decided to build an LMP2 for next year. If it will not be entered directly by the Var team, it will be entrusted to customers. First observation, it cannot deny links with the 01 seen in LMP1 over the last two years, notably at Le Mans.

“Today we are unveiling the Oreca 03 (see photos), who own Le Mans in his genes, says Hugues de Chaunac. It will benefit from the know-how acquired on the LMP1 Oreca 01, a prototype that is both efficient and reliable. We have proven this time and time again, notably by finishing the 24 2010 Hours of Le Mans in fourth place and the 2009 edition in fifth place. »

The price of the car, reasonable, was set at €345. It will have the possibility of being adapted to the engine desired by each customer. The car was also developed with this in mind by the Oreca design office.

“Each customer can choose their engine and we will adapt the car accordingly, explains David Floury, the technical director. However, a common choice can prove useful. This is ideal for helping everyone progress together. »

The teams purchasing the 03 model will benefit from an “assistance and spare parts” team at each meeting of the ACO-labeled championships.

“Our car will follow the ACO specifications, but our project is ambitious, says Hugues de Chaunac. In fact, it?s more than a car. It is a package to win that we offer. We are both a manufacturer and an operating team. We know the requirements of the highest level, through our presence in LMP1, but also the cost constraints, through Formula Le Mans. In these two areas, Oreca has shown its skills. »

If the latest creation from the Signes workshops should make its first rounds at the beginning of January, the first examples will be delivered to interested teams during the first half of 2011, depending on the engine chosen.
