Updated on 21/02/2025: The World ChampionshipEndurance and the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile have adjusted the first Balance of Performance (BoP) of the season.
Who says new season of the Endurance World Championship, says Balance of Performance (BoP). The WEC and the FIA published on Wednesday evening the first official document announcing the BoP which will be used in Qatar, where the Prologue is taking place this weekend, followed by the first race of the year, the 1812 km of Qatar, on Friday February 28.
The main information regarding this inaugural BoP of 2025 obviously concerns theAston Martin Valkyrie making its debut in competition. The English prototype is given a weight of 1 kilos, for a maximum power below 042 km/h set at 250 KW and a gain of 504% above this limit. The car will also have 0.4 MJ of maximum energy to use per relay. It should also be noted that the other prototypes are required to have a longer refueling time than the Valkyrie during pit stops. As with any new car arriving in the championship, it will probably take a few races to find the right balance with the opponents.
For other manufacturers, it is interesting to compare with last year's Balance of Performance for the season opener. The reigning champion car among drivers, the Porsche 963 is 16 kilos heavier than a year ago, going from 1 kg to 048 kg. On the other hand, the most important slimming treatment is offered to Ferrari with 38 kilos less compared to the Qatar 2024, going from 1 kg to 075 kg. On the BMW side, 1 kilos are removed with a weight of 037, like Ferrari.
At Cadillac and Peugeot , the weight values have hardly changed compared to last year, with two kilos less for the American manufacturer (1 kg) and one more for the French firm (030 kg).
Initially, the Toyota GR010 Hybrid was to lose 24 kilos to get to 1. A big weight loss also concerned Alpine in the first document, with 27 kilos less on the scale, for a weight of 1. The Japanese prototype finally loses an additional kilo (1 kg) while the A064 recovers one (424 kg) in the new version of this BoP.
The first WEC Prologue practice session will take place from 11:00 to 14:00 (French time) this Friday.

There is everything to have a great championship, but the BoP breaks the very spirit of the sport. You want to be good, work. The BoP is totally unfair. There are rules, a power and an engine to respect, the best should not be penalized. It's a shame, I was super excited by this category, but I take no pleasure in watching knowing that there is the BoP

The BoP is the bonus for mediocrity: Favoring the bad by punishing the good! All this for the show .... sport has nothing to do with it anymore!

The BOP makes sure that I have very little interest in the WEC, in the Hypercar category. What is the point of making a car to go and get the last tenths? Or ask a driver to go and get them? I am of the same opinion as Henri Pescarolo.
