A few days after rolling his LMDh for the first time near Weissach (Germany), Porsche continues its development program. With the 24 Hours of Daytona looming this weekend (January 29-30), the German manufacturer will settle in Florida to launch its prototype on the track for good.
On site, Porsche will be able to see the first real performances of its LMDh and its power unit. To couple its 500 kW hybrid system, the Stuttgart firm has decided to rely on a bi-turbo V8 which will be powered by renewable fuels, thus reducing CO2 emissions from the powertrain. Regarding the structure of the car, the German manufacturer has joined forces with Multimatic for the design of its chassis.
« We were spoiled for choice for the engine in our LMDh prototype, as the product line offers several promising base units, explains Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport. We opted for the V8-biturbo, which we believe offers the best combination of performance characteristics, weight and cost. The start of the intensive testing program was an important milestone for the project."
Porsche, which will race under the name Porsche Penske Motorsport, is now getting to the heart of the matter with the first real tests of its LMDh. The latter is expected on the grid for the 24 2023 Hours of Daytona and will be entered in WEC as IMSA.
