Rain plays into Porsche's hands

The second qualifying session of 24 Hours of Le Mans did not allow drivers to push the limits of their machines. The rain disrupted the session, limiting the running of the cars.

La Porsche No. 2 of Jani-Lieb-Dumas thus retains provisional pole and should remain at the top of the timesheet if conditions do not improve in the final session. The second 919 Hybrid from Webber-Hartley-Bernhard remains in second place ahead of the Toyota TS050 Hybrid and the Audi R18.

The CLM01/P1 was able to return to the track after its engine failure the day before. Pierre Kaffer had time to set the ninth fastest time while the track was dry, but the No. 4 was still seven seconds behind the second Rebellion R-One.

LMP2

The No. 05 G-Drive Racing Oreca 26 of Rast-Berthon-Rusinov also retains provisional pole in the LMP2 category ahead of the two Alpine. Several drivers in the category were surprised by the precarious grip of the track, but no serious accident was reported.

GTE Pro

As in LM P1 and LM P2, no major change has occurred in the hierarchy of the GTE Pro category since Ford maintains the best provisional time with the GT n°68 of Müller – Hand – Bourdais, who had his reference time last night in 3'51″185. Note that in the clan Aston Martin, an engine change was made on the No. 95 of the Turner – Thiim – Sorensen trio.

GTE Am

In GTE Am, the Ferrari 458 Italia n°61 from Clearwater Racing (which experienced a spin at Arnage during the session) retains the lead in the standings thanks to Rob Bell's time clocked last night in 3'56″827. The No. 911 Abu Dhabi – Proton Racing Porsche 88 RSR of Heinemeier-Hansson – Al Qubaisi – Long, on the other hand, moved up to third place in the category with a new reference time established in 3'57″513. The No. 78 KCMG sister car of Camathias – Henzler – Ried, for its part, achieved one of the only other improvements of the session, with a new benchmark set in 3'59″034, just before the rain arrived. .

The final qualifying session for the 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place from 22 p.m. to midnight.
